The Polystavrio or Analavos, is worn crosswise on the shoulders of the monks, in a way that forms the point of the cross several times. The Polystavrio surrounds the front and back of the body of the monks and fortifies them against every insult and evil desire. In addition, it symbolizes the cross that the monk takes on his shoulders on the way that leads to the Lord. "Take up your cross and follow me" (Matthew 16:24)
